Earning money

Access to the Internet

Justin Bieber is probably the ultimate example of how you can launch a career on the Internet these days. Very few people will achieve anywhere close to the success he has achieved via an Internet start. However, the Internet does provide opportunities for trying to launch and build a career or a business from home – often at little or no cost. Everyone has to be cautious about the information they access and use on the Internet – and that is why this kind of activity is best done in collaboration with a parent or guardian.

Talk with your teen about some of the people who have become famous or found a way to earn income by using the internet. Talk about how people have used the Internet to do this. This can also be a good time to talk about the importance of using the Internet carefully—and how, when it comes to money, there are many examples of how people have tried to access people’s money through frauds and scams to. The Internet is a powerful tool—and talking with your kids about how to use the Internet wisely and effectively is an important talk to have as well—and this activity can provide that opportunity. The websites listed below provide information about different people who have found success through the internet.

  • Brainstorm ideas for creating income on the website.
  • You can work with your teen to generate an idea—one that won’t cost much, if anything—to give it a try. Develop a plan for an idea. Talk about possible business opportunities that could be considered in the future using the power and reach of the Internet.
