Ways in Which You Can Help Others

Category: Activities: Local | Age Group: 8-10

TOPIC:

Charity

RESOURCES NEEDED:

Computer

LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:

It is normal emotional development for children to think about themselves first. At a young age, they can learn the importance of sharing with others less fortunate. Kids need to learn to be content with what they have. Teaching children about charitable giving will help them to grow up to be caring individuals with genuine concern and empathy for others.

THE ACTIVITY:
  • Open the following website and watch the video called “Charity.”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUg-MovCClA
Discuss with your child the importance of helping others. Talk about their concerns in the world and who would they like to help. Your community may have local charities or fund raising activities that might fit your child’s charitable goals. It is best to get them involved in the decision making.
  • Go to the following website to read with your child different ideas to help others.
    http://www.ehow.com/how_2072680_teach-kids-charity.html
  • Choose a charitable idea or pick your own idea. Make a plan as to when and how you can achieve your goal.
FOLLOW UP IDEAS:
  • Make giving to others a habit. Plan to donate your time, energy, or money in different ways in the community.
  • Make a family charity jar so kids can see the contributions adding up.
