Personal Values and Money (SK)

Subject Area: Health

Link(s) to the Saskatchewan Health Curriculum:
  • Establish and use strategies to commit to and act upon personal standards for various aspects of daily living over which an individual has control.
Brief Overview of the Lesson:

In this activity, students will come up with their own personal values and determine how money relates to these values. They will also decorate a “value themed” piggy bank.

Estimated Time Required for Implementation:

One class period

Materials Needed:
  • Copies of the Money Student Handout, magazines and newspapers, jars or tins, and a variety of art supplies
Suggested Implementation Strategy:
Options for Consideration:
  • The teacher may ask the students ahead of time to bring in from home a glass jar or tin, some magazines and any other craft supplies.
  • Instead of making a “piggy bank,” the students may be asked to make a paper collage that reflects their values.
Extended Learning Opportunities:
  • See “Extension” in the lesson plan.
