Donating to Charity

Category: Activities: Local | Age Group: 11-13

TOPIC:

Ways you can help others

RESOURCES NEEDED:

Used clothing, books, toys, etc.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:

Giving to others in need and trying to make a difference in the world teaches kids compassion, empathy,  and generosity. Giving is even more important in these difficult economic times. This activity will remind your child how fortunate they are, to be happy with what they have, and to feel good about themselves by helping others.

THE ACTIVITY:
  • Discuss with your child the importance of helping others. Explain that donations can be in the form of money, time, or items.
  • Ask your child if they have any clothes, toys, books, etc. that they have outgrown or are not using.
  • Tell your child that you are both going to go through your closets to see what you can donate to a charity in your community.
  • Look at charities in your community and decide where to donate.
  • Take your child with your when you drop off your donation.
