Tips to create a good garden (QC)

Brief Overview

Through Sciences, Math and French, students are planting the seeds to success towards a new garden.

Role Play

Spring is coming and we must plant seeds to grow plants and vegetables.

Learning Area(s)

Science & technology (handling, analysis, checking, estimating, validating)
Math (calculation, estimates)
French (reading, writing)

Expected Result(s)

Students will need to be able to take care of their plants, or they will have to start all over again, which means wasting supplies and time, and therefore money (Time is money and an investment)

Explaining the Learning Material

Help students question their decision making process, as decisions will have short, middle and long term impacts (problems can be easy to fix or have heavy consequences).
Research: Internet, resource person, TV, magazines
Estimate: seed cost and quantity, growth time, temperature, number of hours under the sun
Hypothesis: expected results at the end of the activity

Implementation

Once a day, students will take the initiative to go to the garden to water plants, place them under the sun, feed them and measure them.

Knowledge Consolidation

Students will take care of their garden (plants or vegetable) every day at the same time.

There will be a follow-up once the activity is finished.
