The First National Bank of Dad

Category: Books | Age Group: 16+

TOPIC:

Financial Responsibility

RESOURCES NEEDED:

A copy of the book The First National Bank of Dad by David Owen

LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:

Parents naturally want to raise financially responsible kids. We live in a very material world. Getting children to develop a sense of financial discipline and financial responsibility will help them avoid making poor choices. This book explains money concepts in simple terms. The more children know about how to manage money, the more likely they are to make wise choices. This “Bank of Dad” system creates a situation where children feel a sense of responsibility for their money.

THE ACTIVITY:
  • Tell your teen that this book offers excellent financial tips that the whole family can use. Explain that everyone in the family is going to read it and then discuss how they can implement some of the ideas from the book into their family’s finances.
