Avoiding Fraud (QC)

BRIEF OVERVIEW

This lesson will guide students in detecting and avoiding fraud and preventing identity theft.

LEARNING AREAS

Ethics and religious culture/reflecting on ethical issues: analyzing a situation from an ethical perspective and evaluating options or possible actions

Guiding students to recognize fraud and react appropriately to it

EXPLANATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSE

– Analyzing a fraudulent situation
– Sharing of students’ perspectives on that situation
– Reflecting on possible actions to counter the fraud

EXECUTION

Scenario
In the form of questions:
– Do you know people who have been the victims of fraud?
– Do you know how to recognize fraud?
– Do you know the different types of fraud?

Activity
– Display the image of a fraudulent e-mail on the interactive whiteboard (IWB) and, as a group, try to find clues indicating the scam behind that e-mail
– Display the image of the fraudulent e-mail on the IWB with the tips to show the students various elements they should notice to avoid fraud
